This week we welcomed again Chris and Jeff, 2 very competent slow pitch jigging aficionados from the US, and their team. Weather conditions were not ideal, with still some wind and rain, but things are definitely improving on that front and we're hoping for a better second half of the rainy season. Fishing was pretty average for Pedasi: not a bad week by any means but not one for the records either. Highlights of the week included good sized roosterfish on the slow jigging outfits. One day of killing it on the big chernas -our version of the warsaw/snowy grouper- as the current allowed us to fish the deepest marks. And Chris hooking an estimated 200lbs marlin that ate his slow jig. Cuberas showed up a few times behind the lures but for the most part were very shy to commit. As always, a few monsters won their fight and we'll never know for sure what and how big they were... Heart-breaking but that's what ultimately keeps you coming back.

<![CDATA[Bad weather and good fishing in June]]>Sun, 17 Jul 2022 15:42:36 GMThttp://panafishing.com/reports--news/bad-weather-and-good-fishing-in-juneAll right guys I guess I have been lazy again with the reports. Weather-wise, we've just experienced the worst month of June ever. Challenging conditions with most days rainy and windy. As one can imagine, that can really limit the options for dropping a jig or throwing a popper. Fortunately, the fish were biting good and all groups had a good mix of action and trophy fish. Here are some pictures from the month of June. As always at Panafishing, all fish caught popping & jigging !

<![CDATA[Report 30/03/22 - 06/04/22]]>Mon, 11 Apr 2022 14:42:08 GMThttp://panafishing.com/reports--news/report-300322-060422
This week we had Golan and Yona join us for just 2 days fishing whilst on their travels from Israel, along with a crew of 6 from the UK and 3 from the U.S.

The start of the week saw a great Cubera Bite, lots of fish were risen, a fair few hooked some got lucky and either freed the hooks or got the better of the anglers, but some were landed and some great size ones at that! The star of the show was Rick from the U.S with a monstrous Cubera on stickbait, a fish that tested every bit of him and needed some help to ensure he didn't go overboard with it haha!

Golan and Yona got amongst a good Rooster frenzy on their first day landing many to tick off their bucket lists, they also found a crazy big Jack bite! They also had many chances at Cubera but luck wasn't on their side, when a big one they manage to coax boat side spat the hooks within feet of the boat, unlucky!

A couple of the boats one day found themselves in some great Yellowfin Tuna action which saw around 30 fish in total brought to the boat along with more sporadic Tuna and Mahi Mahi throughout the days which in turn is a sign that the seasons are changing, we had our first rains in months this week!

Don from the UK landed a big Rooster on SPJ tackle which makes for a great catch, on the same day Andy also had a big Rooster on popper which unfortunately spat the hooks mid-fight!

In general this week there was numerous big fish opportunities, the overall action seemed very sporadic and hard at times, the water temperatures and clarities have seemed very inconsistent and the changing air pressures creating some relentless and unpredictable currents which can really limit the fishing!

Piotr with a fine Specimen on his first day.
Another look at the huge Cubera Rick caught, that's a big fish!
Don with his big Roosterfish taken on Slow Jigging tackle.

It's Tuna Time!

More Cuberas:

Some Roosters from the week:

A few uncommon but cool catches - Big Triggerfish, Surgeon Fish and a Trumpet Fish.
A couple of lovely Almaco Jacks for Don and Andy.
Nice Broomtail groupers for Geoff and Andy.

This week was round 3 for our European agency 'Getaway Sea Angling' in which consisted of guys from Germany, Austria and Denmark.

They was all eager to get out as in the 2 days previous before the guys arrived a huge presence of Sardine shoals thick and plentiful flooded the coast and with it many predatory fish Kieren reported. Day 1 the guys got to experience some of this finding many Roosters with the top boat landing 18 on day 1 alongside many Jacks, Sierra mackerel and more. During the week whilst casting at the sardines Udo got quite the surprise when a quality Cubera inhaled his small stickbait and with some degree of luck managed to land the fantastic fish on the light rod! Over the next few days the intensity of the sardines decreased and with it the inshore activity with it as expected. If only we could plan for exactly these times!

The week saw its usual sporadic nature, hit and miss inshore activity, the guys seemed to have some bad luck with a good number of the big fish with only a few making it to the boat!

The last day for the Germans saw some top draw jigging action which saw them have double and triple hookups drift after drift of Fortune Jacks, White Tuna and the odd obliging Almaco Jack in-between which made for some great sport.

Udo with his solid Cubera caught from an inshore frenzy on a small stickbait!
Some nice Almaco Jacks made it to the boats.
Heiko with a nice Cubera taken on Popper.
Big Bluefin Trevally for Stephan!

This week we welcomed the 2nd group from our European agency 'Getaway Sea Angling'. The group consisted of a mix of returning anglers as they seek their prized Panamanian fish and new comers.

The week was very mixed with some big fish opportunities present, some landed but many big fish lost (ouch!) and sporadic action along the coast when the anglers found shoals of Roosters, Jacks and Sierra mackerel feeding on bait inshore.

Top big fish angler for the week had to be Peter landing a monster Cubera Snapper followed up by two smaller specimens also all taken on lure and Slow Jig. Yurt found himself a quality Rooster on popper and also to note Heiko landed a big Rock Snapper. Most of the Activity seemed to be focused around finding Sardine inshore with hungry Jacks, Rooster, Sierra etc in tow as the presence of the Sardine increased throughout the week which in the days to come after this group turned into full blown bedlam, Sardine Massacre!
Yurt with his solid Topwater Roosterfish!
Peter with his 2nd biggest Cubera of the week which seemed to have a lucky escape previously!
"BUENNNOOOOO" Captain Eduardo and the crew holla as Peter's monster Cubera graces the deck.
Cassie got out with Kieren on the Taxi Boat during their day off and nailed a good sized Rooster on Popper!
The not so common catch but a welcomed big Rock Snapper for Heiko.
A few YFT were caught through the week.

Below: Many Jack Crevalles obliged to the lures.

<![CDATA[Report 04/03/22 - 10/03/22 - 'Double Devil Day']]>Tue, 15 Mar 2022 16:05:48 GMThttp://panafishing.com/reports--news/report-040322-100322-double-devil-day
This week we welcomed back our European Agency 'Getaway Sea Angling' for the first group of a 3 week assault popping and jigging on the Tuna Coast of Panama with us at Panafishing. For most it was their first trip to Panama or their first trip of this kind overall!

The week saw a mix of conditions with the start of the week seeing some stronger winds and dropping as the week went on. The guys made no mistake and got stuck into the fishing we have on offer here, there was 2 absolutely exceptional Cubera Snapper caught on the same day by Rick on Slow Jig which makes for the 2nd monster specimen caught this year on SPJ along with Kieren's fish in January and Stephan also had one on Popper, both fish were absolute units and they certainly don't come too much bigger than that!

Other fish to note were a big Mullet snapper for Klaus, a good Broomtail grouper, Almaco Jack and Red Snapper for Mathias which all came in quick succession and a good sized Broomtail for Phillip. There were hives of inshore activity found throughout the week as our clients found feeding frenzies of Roosterfish and Jacks to throw their lures at and many were caught (many more than what I have included in the report) with all anglers finding their Rooster!

Many other species were caught through the week, There was a more prominent presence of the big Pink Amberjacks and Albacore that were providing more consistent sport jigging with some big Red Snappers obliging also!

All in all a fantastic vibe at the Lodge this week, lots of fun was had and lets see how the fishing fairs for the next group going into week 2!
Stephans huge Cubera Snapper taken on popper!
Klaus got a workout with his hence Mullet Snapper.
A nice Broomtail for Phillip!
Mathias with his quick fire succession whilst jigging!
Some big Red Snapper for Rob and Stephan.

Rooster Time!

However not the normal species everyone is after, when the bite is harder these stud Pink Amberjacks are more than welcome as these bigger ones can pull some string and provide good sport whilst other fish may not be on the feed.

<![CDATA[Report - 08/02/22 - 12/02/22]]>Sat, 26 Feb 2022 14:50:49 GMThttp://panafishing.com/reports--news/report-080222-120222
This week we had an invasion from the English which consisted of Mark's group of 5 which would embark on their first popping and jigging holiday over seas here in Panama then separately John and Ken and also Sam and Ben which would join lodge manager and friend Kieren as he took on the roll to Captain them for some fishing.

Although the week presented pretty fair and average conditions for this time of year from day 1 we was on the back foot as we was recovering from some previous high winds and swells from the days before, the water condition was suffering from this which in turn affected the fishing. The water at the coast was stirred and the previous reliable activity at the coast moved off, however as the conditions allowed it to correct itself we seen a steady increase in the fishing and the bite as the week progressed but it really didn't come easy for the guys unfortunately.

That being said the guys worked very hard and gained some crucial experience throughout the fishing week as they got to grips with the methods and preferred tactics for the fish available and still managed to lure some fantastic fish to the boats, the numbers of fish wasn't so high but some quality catches still and many firsts for the guys!

Ricky and Mark ticked off Cubera's on Popper on their first trip, the group had a few other chances also, some nice Almaco Jacks where caught also whilst jigging amongst the guys, John landed a lovely sized Rooster on popper and Dan nailed a nice Broomtail slow jigging.

As the week progressed signs of the inshore activity improving showed as the guys found some impressive Jack frenzies and a few obliging Roosters.

Kieren's boat knocked up an impressive 24 different species alone! With some fantastic specimens amongst them notably Roosterfish, Almaco Jacks, Colorado Snapper, Bluefin Trevally, Broomtail Grouper and a Cubera slow jigging! Their where of course some big fish lost during the week with classic bloopers and bad luck!

Top fish of the week went to Ben with a big Trophy Roosterfish taken on Popper, which hit so hard we thought it was genuinely a shark until it showed itself in the fight! well done Ben!

I believe a lodge total of around 30 species for the week which is impressive in itself for what was considered a very tricky week!

Thanks to the guys for joining us and providing great company at the lodge, it was a pleasure.
Mark and Ricky both very happy wit their 1st Cubera encounters on Popper.
Ben got a nice surprise when this solid AJ smashed his popper on his light rod!
Sam tests his SPJ tackle on this lovely Almaco!
A selection of the AJ's that Marks group teased through the week.
A couple of the better Broomtails for Dan and Sam.
John gets his trophy topwater Roosterfish along with some smaller examples for James, Ben and Mark.
Sam with his stunning Colorado Snapper taken on SPJ and Ben below with his Cubera also taken on SPJ.

Kieren landed a couple of real brute Bluefin trevallys on topwater and SPJ. Sam also wanted to tick this specie off whilst in Panama and got a good specimen on topwater also.

<![CDATA[Report 31/01/22 - 05/01/22 - Monster Cubera on SPJ and Monster topwater Rooster!]]>Wed, 16 Feb 2022 19:20:20 GMThttp://panafishing.com/reports--news/report-310122-050122-monster-cubera-on-spj-and-monster-topwater-rooster Picture
This week we welcomed groups from Canada, France and Brazil. The week continued the trend of the previous week with some inconsistencies in action, harder slower days and alternatively much more productive days where the action flowed more consistently. We really do feel in the transition of seasons at the moment, we have the typical northerly winds expected at this time of year but still the temperatures of the water aren't matching so we are finding a spread of the bigger specimens hanging around still as well as the activity at the coast but some days more than others. The guys have certainly had to work for thier fish as always.

There was a couple of fish to note this week, first of all Lodge manager Kieren headed out one evening to catch a quick session and little did he know what he was in for when a Monstrous Cubera snapper smashed him up on his light SPJ outfit, incredibly after a true man V beast battle he brought the huge fish boat side and grabbed some quick pics before release, this fish was in the same sort of calibre as his monster World Record style topwater fish last season but to land one of that size on SPJ is somewhat crazy! A few days later Kieren headed out again for a few hours on his birthday to get his fix and this time latched into a big PB Corvina on SPJ to add to his already successful week!

Not to miss out on the action Francois on his 3rd trip to the lodge come up trumps when a monster Roosterfish hounded his popper, after a lengthy fight the incredible fish was landed and quickly returned after a few photos, an incredible specimen, he also managed many other Roosters through the week, with another big one at 20kg but returned boat side without photos. Pierre from Canada got his eye in on the big fish when a fantastic Cubera smashed his popper and successfully landed it, well done guys!

Orlando managed his topwater Cubera on the last day fishing off thier week nicely, along with a nice Corvina and some nice Broomtails coming to the boat for Gustavo and Gustavo Jnr also.

Pascal had some great opportunities at multiple Cuberas but sadly didn't get the upper hand on any but sufficed with some stunning specimen Pacific Red Snappers and Colardo Snapper as well as Rooster.

Francios with his phenomenal Roosterfish taken on Popper.
Pierre with his Topwater caught Cubera Snapper - A bucket list fish for many people!
Kieren with his big Corvina!
Orlando ticks off his Topwater Cubera on the final day!
Gustavo with the best Broomtail of the week taken whilst jigging.
Some nice Red Snappers and Colorado were landed.
A selection of Roosters from inshore, more were landed but the guys were happily with a quick water release.

<![CDATA[Report - 20/01/22 - 26/01/22]]>Mon, 31 Jan 2022 23:29:50 GMThttp://panafishing.com/reports--news/report-200122-260122
This week we hosted for just 2 clients from France due to an unfortunate cancellation from other clients due to some travel difficulties. Franck and Anthony joined us for their first trip to Panama and enjoyed some varied fishing throughout the week from our chosen methods of lure fishing.

The week was very inconsistent, some slower days with less fish but a few solid specimens falling to their lures then other days with much more consistent action, but there was no set pattern during the week, we'd mainly put this down to experiencing the initial big change in water temperatures as we cement ourself in our typical 'Dry Season' as we see the cooler waters flush the shoreline and with it the shoals of sardines and not far behind the predatory fish we love to catch! However it is typical for most fisheries when there is a sudden drastic change in temperatures the fish can become not so forgiving as they spend their time adjusting too conditions.

They guys enjoyed catching some new species they have yet to encounter, they fished hard on a typically harder week and it prevailed. Unfortunately on the first day Anthony lost an enormous Roosterfish due to a hook failure, however not to be too disheartened he returned on day 2 to get revenge and landed a fantastic Cubera snapper on popper! Anthony certainly had the luck on his side with the bigger specimens as he ticked off a huge Rock Snapper, nice Almaco Jack, African Pompano, Pacific Red Snapper and on the final day after numerous nice sized Broomtail groupers he landed a solid specimen! Well done that man!

Franck ticked off some from his lists, namely a big tussle on day 1 with a big Black Tip shark on popper, nice sized Bluefin Trevally, an unexpected Stingray, Rock Snapper, Pacific Red Snapper, Roosterfish and Broomtail Groupers. The pair had many other fish and species during the week also, as we go into the next few days the water temperature and weather should stabilise and hopefully influence better fishing also!

During the week Pierre, Kieren and visiting guest Geordie took a boat out for just the day to experience some fishing, the day was by no means easy but some action was found and Kieren landed some good fish to note, a new PB Pacific Red Snapper and huge Jack Crevalle in the same day, its never a bad day when you have a PB or two!
Anthony's stud Cubera and Broomtail both taken on lures.
Not the everyday catch but super welcomed when they are as impressive as this one!
Some nice Amberjacks always provide a great fight for the clients.
Some days the Red Snapper were obliging well to the jigs!
Monster Jack Crevalle really had Kieren guessing what he hooked for a while as it provided a super good fight!

Some more from the week...
